Shimla. August 20

The residents got rationed supply of water after three days  in most parts of the city.  The SJPNL resorted to rationing of water to tide over the crisis triggered

by the floods resulting in silt and debris in the Guma and Giri, the main water sources of the city.

The residents, however, complained that they got muddy water. They said that the water supplied by the Shimla Jal Prabandh Nigam Ltd (SJPNL) for cooking and drinking purpose was dark yellowish.  The SJPNL has come under fire from the residents as it has slapped inflated water bills after it hurriedly started volumetric system of billing giving bills for six months together. An average house owner got the water Bill ranging from Rs 18,000 to Rs 30,000 - an issue which was raised in the MC House. The SJPNL, however, is yet to revise the bills, the residents rued.  The SJPNL managed to pump about 33. 66 MLD of water today, almost three times more than yesterday’s 10.82 MLD from all five sources of water of the city.

The SJPNL managers said that the water supply would be normalised in a day two. — TNS
