Former Rajya Sabha member from Maharashtra Rajni Patil will be the new Congress in-charge for Himachal Pradesh.

The appointment of 58-year-old Patil was approved by Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday and announced by party general secretary organisation Ashok Gehlot.

The order said former minister and senior Congress man Sushil Kumar Shinde had been relieved of his services as party general secretary for Himachal.

Rajni Patil represented Maharashtra in the Rajya Sabha following a by-election in 2013 necessitated by the death of Congress strongman Vilasrao Deshmukh.

Earlier, Patil was a Lok Sabha MP from Beed in 1996 from the BJP. She later changed her party.

Himachal Pradesh state organisation may also be overhauled now as Gandhi revamps his entire team. The current state chief is Sukhwinder Sukhu.

The other Congress appointments are: Jitendra Baghel and Biswaranjan Mohanty are the new Congress secretaries for Bihar. Virender Singh Rathore and Rajesh Lilothia are new secretaries for Bihar. Nadeem Javed is the chairman of AICC minority department.
