Rains or snow predicted as temperature soars

Even as mercury maintained its rising trend in most parts of Himachal and Una recorded a high of 36.0 degree, three degree above normal, the local MeT office has predicted rains or snow at isolated places in the region over next five days up to April 9.

Rains or snow at isolated places in lower, mid and higher hills is likely from tomorrow as a cyclonic circulation lies over the region, the MeT office said.

The minimum temperatures also remained close to normal. Keylong was the coldest at night with a low of 3.4 degree while Kalpa and Manali recorded minimum temperatures at 6.0 degree and 6.8 degree, followed by Bhuntar 10.5 degree, Solan 11.4 degree, Shimla 12.3 degree, Sundernagar 13.0 degree, Dharamsala 14.4 degree and Nahan16.2 degree.

The maximum temperatures rose by few notches and Bilaspur recorded a high of 34.0 degree, followed by Sundernagar 32.2 degree, Bhuntar 30.8 degree, Nahan 30.1 degree, Solan 27.2 degree, Manali 24.6 degree and Shimla 24 degree C.

Himachal, which received 43 per cent excess rains during winters from January 1 to February 28 has so far received 50 per cent deficit rains from March 1 to April 4. The actual rainfall was 60.7 mm against normal rainfall of 122.5 mm, MeT office said.
