Kalka-Shimla train’s new glass-roof vistadome coach drew large crowds on Tuesday.

The Indian Railways rolled out the new luxury coach on its historic train section, making it the first narrow gauge to have such a facility.

Estimated to cost Rs 10 lakh, the coach is a fully air-conditioned 36 seater with a glass roof and wooden interiors that boasts of a 360 degree panoramic view. On the flipside, however the coach doesn’t have a toilet yet.

Online bookings will begin in a week, Shimla Station Superintendent Prince Sethi said.

The train will cost Rs 130 for adults and Rs 75 for children. The train journey from Shimla to Kalka takes 5.30 hours, with halts at 20 stations.
