Lauding the valour of gallant soldiers from ‘Dev Bhoomi’, President Ram Nath Kovind presented a brick for construction of martyrs’ memorial under “Ek Eint Shaheehdon ke Naam” pogramme at the civic reception organised here.

Kovind presented the brick to Sanjeev Rana of Bilaspur for the construction of the memorial, dedicated to the memory of those who made the supreme sacrifices fighting the enemy. Kovind said he had been told that there were 1.10 lakh ex-servicemen in the state, which spoke volumes of the hill state’s contribution to defending the borders against enemies.

The state government has launched the scheme as a tribute to its martyrs and building memorials in their honour in all district headquarters.

Sanjeev Rana, who is the convener of the campaign, was presented a brick each by the Chief Minister and his Cabinet colleagues a few days back. According to Sanjeev Rana, the objective of the construction of memorial was to make the future generations aware of the sacrifices made by these valiant soldiers.

Rana said only one brick and construction material was being accepted under the scheme and no cash being accepted. Volunteers are visiting door-to-door to connect with the common man for the campaign. The martyr memorials will be constructed and renovated under this campaign in the state with the cooperation of people.
