Poor garbage disposal in Kullu is a cause of concern. Heaps of garbage can be seen at every nook and corner of the town. The Municipal Council burns garbage in the open, adding to the pollution levels. The MC  should make proper arrangement for garbage disposal as it is scarring the beauty of the town. Dumping and burning of garbage in the open should be stopped as the place is visited by a large number of foreign and domestic tourists every year.  —Suresh Kumar, Kullu

Dispensary faces neglect

Gandhigram Ayurvedic Dispensary, opened more than five decades ago when the area was a part of Punjab, presents a picture of neglect. No elected representative of Baijnath has ever bothered to get it upgraded. Since its inception, the health centre has been grappling with staff crunch. At times, it is out of medicine stock. Had it been attached to Rajiv Gandhi Government Ayurvedic College and Hospital, Paprola, it would have served better.  —Suresh Kumar, Kullu

Garbage burning ban being violated

The ban on garbage burning is being violated with impunity in the state capital. One can see leaves and  plastic being burnt at the SDA complex in Kasumpti. What is even worse is the fact that government employees too flout the norms without any fear. The burning of garbage not only causes air pollution, but also emits stench. The authorities should check the violation. —Satish Verma, Shimla

Stray dog menace on the Mall

The sight of stray dogs puts off tourists on the Mall in the heart of Shimla, leaving a bad impression on them. A large number of stray dogs are seen roaming the place. Women and children are under continuous threat of being attacked by them. It has become difficult to walk on the Mall.  —Mala, Shimla
