Met warns of heavy snow, rain in state

  • The State Meteorological Centre, Shimla, warned that heavy snow or rain is likely at isolated places in the higher reaches and hail storms or rains in the middle hills of the state for four days from Friday.
  • The winter chill once again swept the state on Thursday with the temperature hitting -11°C in Keylong, the lowest, while Shimla city recorded 1.8°C on Thursday morning, setting the stage for snow in higher and middle hills of the state. 
  • According to the weather forecast issued here, the Met centre predicted that the state was likely to experience rain and thunderstorms at many places across the lower region. 
  • Met Director Manmohan Singh warned that heavy rains or snow was likely at some isolated places in the middle and higher hills from January 4 to January 7 due to the western disturbances. 
  • Heavy hail storms or rains might occur at some isolated places in the lower hills, he warned.
  • The weather would be dry in the lower and middle hills on January 8, while higher hills would experience snow. — TNS
