Shimla, July 22

Lawyers held a protest after not being allowed to commute on the restricted road from the Vidhan Sabha to Boileauganj without permit. Members of the District Bar Association went on indefinite strike and sat on a dharna at Boileauganj Chowk.

President of the association Rajiv Sirkek said VIPs were allowed to ply on such roads and all restrictions were for the common man.

Taking serious note of the unauthorised parking on roads, the High Court had recently directed the DC and the SP, Shimla, to ensure that there was no idle parking on the roads. The court further directed both officials to ensure that no vehicle without permit was allowed to ply on sealed and restricted roads.

Meanwhile, commuters will be challaned for not wearing seatbelts from tomorrow. DGP SR Mardi has issued directions to ensure zero tolerance towards traffic violations.

As a large number of complaints of the police harassing commuters were pouring in, the officials have been told to check the documents only when there is a visible traffic violation like rash and negligent driving, drunk driving and overspeeding.
