Engg student booked for paper leak on WhatsApp

KANGRA: The Kangra police have booked an engineering student for allegedly leaking the engineering mathematics paper from the examination hall at Rajiv Gandhi Government Engineering College, Nagrota Bagwan centre, through WhatsApp to another student of the same college, but was caught by the examination staff, the police said here on Tuesday.

The Kangra police have booked an engineering student for allegedly leaking the engineering mathematics paper from the examination hall at Rajiv Gandhi Government Engineering College, Nagrota Bagwan centre, through WhatsApp to another student of the same college, but was caught by the examination staff, the police said here on Tuesday.

Dinesh Kumar, Additional Superintendent of Police, Kangra, said Atul Rana, a BTech Civil Engineering student of the college, was appearing in the second semester final examination conducted by Himachal Pradesh Technical University. He was caught by the invigilating officer, Dr Sanjeev Kumar, for carrying a mobile inside the examination centre and leaking out the question paper on WhatsApp to another student of the college within minutes of the paper distribution. Dr Sanjeev informed the Superintendent of Examination, Dr Anoopam Jamwal, about it.

Dinesh Partap Tewari, Director, of the college, said the Superintendent informed him about the alleged criminal offence by the student and the police were informed.

ASP Dinesh Kumar said the police investigation had revealed that the accused student had leaked the paper to his junior where another student of the college was waiting to solve the question paper. But before the paper could have been solved, Atul was caught.

The ASP said the case under Section 7 of the HP Prevention of Malpractices University, Board and Other Specified Examination Act was registered against the student. He said the accused was yet to be arrested and the case was under investigation.

Paper was out within minutes of distribution
