Former Cong MLA Shivlal Sharma dies

MANDI: Former Congress MLA of the Chachyot Assembly segment, now known as Seraj, in Mandi district, Shivlal Sharma (80) died because of a cardiac arrest in Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla, on Sunday.

Former Congress MLA of the Chachyot Assembly segment, now known as Seraj, in Mandi district, Shivlal Sharma (80) died because of a cardiac arrest in Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla, on Sunday. He represented the area from 1985 to 1990.

He led a cooperative movement in Mandi district and made big contribution to motivate the people towards the cooperative movement.

The death of Shivlal is a big setback for the Congress in Mandi ahead of the elections because he had considerable followers in Seraj.

The District Congress Committee has expressed condolences to the aggrieved family.

Former Health Minister and senior Congress leader Kaul Singh Thakur, former Excise and Taxation Minister Prakash Chaudhari, Congress spokesperson Vijay Pal Chuhan, DCC president Dipak Sharma, former DCC president Vir Singh Chauhan and other leaders have expressed condolences to the family.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur also expressed grief over the demise of the veteran leader.

He said Shivlal was an honest and down-to-earth person, who had always worked hard for the welfare of people of his area.
