Shimla, April 11

The High Court today directed the Election Commission (EC) to grant approval to the state government for taking steps to recruit nurses.

During the course of hearing, it was informed to the court that the state had already notified the recruitment and promotional rules for the recruitment of nurses and the same had been sent to the Election Commission for its approval.

Due to the parliamentary elections, the model code of conduct is in force. In view of this, the state had sought permission from the Election Commission for taking further action in this regard.

After hearing the matter for some time, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Sandeep Sharma further directed the Election Commission to grant the approval within 10 days.

It further directed the state to file its compliance report within two weeks, informing the court about the steps taken by it for the recruitment of nurses in the state.

The court passed the order on a public interest litigation, highlighting the issue of shortage of medical staff in the state.
