Dharamsala, May 25

It was a high-voltage drama by ‘controversial’ Congress leader and former Chief Parliamentary Secretary (CPS) Neeraj Bharti in Jawali today as he challenged BJP leaders, who had dared him to come there.

Bharti, who is in the news for posting controversial Facebook posts, arrived at the Keriyan square, along with his supporters, even as there was police deployment to avert any clash. Clad in a black kurta pyjama and his trademark black sunglasses, he dared the BJP workers to face him.

Bharti now faces a case of the code of conduct violation which is in effect till May 27.

Tension mounted in the area following a huge presence of both Congress and BJP workers, who had a minor scuffle. The presence of heavy police deployment averted the situation from getting ugly. “Even if one of my supporters is attacked or gets hurt, I will not spare anyone. The punishment for 10 murders is the same as for one,” he said.

Bharti, while pointing towards a man, said he, along with his wife and children, was beaten up during an election campaign. “I took them to hospital but the destiny of the culprits helped them as they escaped before my arrival,” he said.

The high drama happened as some BJP workers had challenged Bharti to come to the Keriyan square at 12 noon on May 25. Bharti arrived in full force, accompanied by his supporters, who were raising slogans.

It was after the arrival of Bharti that BJP supporters also started assembling. As tension mounted, the two groups clashed but the police intervened. The traffic was also held up for some due to the drama.

DIG Santosh Patial said action would be taken against Bharti for violating the code of conduct. He would also be booked under other sections for creating a ruckus.
