Mentally challenged minor raped

In a shocking incident, a minor mentally-challenged girl (14),was allegedly raped by a man in the Manikaran valley of the district yesterday.

Nishchint Singh Negi, ASP, Kullu, said the family members of the victim approached the police and stated that their neighbour had sexually assaulted their minor daughter. He said the girl had gone to their neighbour’s house, who also happened to be a relative, and did not return for a long time. When the family members went out to look for her, she was found in an inebriated state near the neighbour’s house, he added.

The ASP said the police had registered a case of rape on the complaint of her family members and the alleged accused had been arrested. He said investigations were being carried out to find if the accused had earlier assaulted the girl, as she was not able to speak about the incident.Negi said a case under Section 376 of the IPC and Section 4 of the POCSO Act had been registered. — OC
