Manali road blocked after cloudburst

MANDI: A village road was damaged and the Kullu-Manali highway was blocked following a cloudburst at the Bran Nullah in Manali on late Tuesday night, affecting traffic for several hours. Six vehicles parked along the road were also swept away.

A village road was damaged and the Kullu-Manali highway was blocked following a cloudburst at the Bran Nullah in Manali on late Tuesday night, affecting traffic for several hours. Six vehicles parked along the road were also swept away.

Due to the cloudburst, debris accumulated on the road, damaging the 200-metre-long stretch of the local road connecting Baran, Dhoba and Bramanbed villages.

Apart from this, 60-metre stretch on the Kullu-Manali highway was also blocked by debris. Seven footbridges connecting nearby villages were also damaged in the flood.

The highway was blocked around 3 am, which was partially cleared around 9 am on Wednesday for one-way traffic.

There has been heavy rain in Kullu for the past three days, triggering landslides on the national highway.

Heavy machinery and workforce were deployed to clear the road.

SDM, Manali, Raman Gharsangi also visited the spot to assess the situation where the loss to property was reported in lakhs.

However, no loss of life was reported in this rain-related incident.

Deputy Commissioner, Kullu, Yunus Khan said the road had been opened for normal traffic.
