Make yoga a routine to check negativity: Governor

Himachal Pradesh Governor Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur and his Cabinet colleagues, along with hundreds of schoolchildren and residents, practised yoga on the historic Ridge here on Thursday. Union Health Minister JP Nadda was also present at the state-level function.

The event was organised by the Ayurvedic Department and the Manas Kalyan Society in association with the Patanjali Yog Samiti, Himachal Pradesh, and the SJVNL.

In his address, the Governor urged the people to make yoga an integral part of life and stressed on making it a routine activity to check negative energy in life.

The Chief Minister said yoga was an invaluable gift of India’s ancient traditions as it embodied the unity of mind and body, thought and action with harmony between man and nature and a holistic approach to health and well-being.

There was great enthusiasm among the youth, women, schoolchildren and various organisations about the event across the state.

At the Annadale ground, more than 400 officers, soldiers and their families practised yoga. The event was led by Lieut Gen Rajeev Sirohi.

DG (prisons and correctional services) Somesh Goyal said more 2,227 jail inmates across the state also performes asanas. At the Dharamsala jail, the session was led by criminal-turned-yoga teacher Amrish Rana.

Yoga by Tibetans

Dharamsala: Hundreds of Tibetans from the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) on Thursday performed yoga exercises at the courtyard of the Tsuglagkhang temple here. CTA’s Health Minister Choekyong Wangchuk said Tibetans were observing a series of pan-India events to observe 2018 as the year of thanking India for ensuring support for the Tibetan people and its struggle.

The session was led by Tsering Yangzom, a Gurgaon-based yoga instructor. Other government departments and Army officials also celebrated the day.

Tips by Dhumal

Hamirpur: Former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal led the International Yoga Day celebrations here. Addressing a gathering, he urged people to practise yoga on a daily basis. He said children who learn yoga in the early stages remain healthy throughout their life. More than 100 residents and students were present.

Celebrations at CUHP

Kangra: International Yoga Day celebrations were held on the Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP) campus here. Vice Chancellor Kuldeep Chand Agnihotri, and Subedar Major Omkar Guleria (retd) presided over the event. The day was also celebrated on the premises of GAV Senior Secondary School at the subdivisional level. SDM, Kangra, Seshi Pal Negi was the chief guest. A number of schoolchildren and local residents were present.
