KULLU, APRIL 22

A tourist from Lucknow died during trekking near Kheer Ganga in the Parbati valley of this district yesterday. The deceased was identified as Ramnami (29). He along with his wife had left for Kheer Ganga trek yesterday.

Kullu DSP Ashish Sharma said that his wife Priyanka stated that both were trekking towards Kheer Ganga but they decided to return finding the snow-laden trek tough.

While returning, the husband slipped down the gorge. His wife reported the matter to the police at Manikaran late in the evening.

The DSP said the body of the victim was recovered today. It had been sent to Kullu hospital for post-mortem examination.

Several cases of fatal accidents during trekking occur in the Manikaran valley. The tourists sometimes take the risk of going for trekking without hiring tourist guides due to which a majority of accidents occur. — OC
