Kangra, August 20

A heavy lanslide early on Monday following heavy rain blocked the Kangra-Chandigarh National Highway on the outskirts of this town for more than three hours.

Seshi Pal Negi, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Kangra said that the landslide that occurred at 5.50 am blocked the national highway and hundreds of vehicles were left stranded on both sides of the road. Men and machinery were pressed into service for removing the debris caused by the landslide.

The SDM said it took at least three hours to clear the road for one-way traffic. The road was cleared for two-way traffic in the afternoon.

Pilgrims in large number were seen going on foot to reach Kangra town to pay obeisance in the Bajjreshwari temple. The school and college students found it difficult to reach their destinations.

A landslide earlier also took place last week on the same road near Kangra bypass following rains.
