Solan, December 28

Several gallons of water is being wasted on a daily basis due to a shortage of funds to repair old and worn-out pipelines of various potable water schemes in the Kasauli area.

The pipes of the Gorti potable scheme have worn out to such an extent that there is little scope to even weld them. At least, 20 leakage points are visible in the main pipeline. The main tank is not getting adequate water for supplying to villagers.

The situation is all set to worsen in summer months when water supply declines. Sources said residents were getting water supply after three days due to a shortage of staff with the Irrigation and Public Health Department.

Only one person had been handling several water supply schemes.

Manish Kumar, a resident of Shiller village, said due to several leakages in the main pipelines, the supply of water had substantially reduced. Even the pump house at Gorti was in a bad shape. Executive Engineer, IPH Department, Sumit Sood said the district had received a fund of Rs 29.55 crore. All water supply schemes would be repaired at the earliest.

He said Rs 20 crore would be spent in the Dharampur area alone, where water supply schemes wanted immediate repair and attention.
