Kangra, August 21

Incessant rain plunged Kangra into darkness for 13 hours. It started raining at 10.15 pm on Monday night and continued till early morning, leaving the Manji and Manooni swollen. Kangra recorded 33-mm rain at night and Dharamsala 145.6-mm rain.

As many as 18,000 residents remained without power. Water supply too was affected. This left the residents annoyed. They said frequent power cuts had become a routine in the town.

The HPSEB authorities attributed the power failure to a snag, which could not be rectified due to heavy rain and staff shortage. The sky remained overcast. The Met Department has predicted rain with thundershowers at many places till August 25. Reports of rain were received from Shahpur, Gaggal, Rait, Nagrota Bagwan, Dharamsala, Mallan, Chamunda, Jwalamukhi, Dehra, Ranital and other places of the district.
