Kalraj Mishra arrives in Shimla, swearing-in today

State Governor-designate Kalraj Mishra was given a rousing reception on his arrival in Shimla today. He will take oath as Governor at 4.15 pm tomorrow.

Mishra said, “The Governor is the top constitutional post in a state and efforts will be made to abide by the constitutional dignity and ensure the fair functioning of the Vidhan Sabha. The endeavour will be to make the state more beautiful with the support and cooperation of all,” he added.

Born on July 1, 1941, Kalraj Mishra is a veteran politician and has served as Cabinet minister in Uttar Pradesh and Minister of State (independent charge) for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the NDA government, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, from May 26, 2014, to September 2, 2017.

He had also remained in-charge of the BJP organisational affairs for Himachal for two years. He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Deoria in UP in 2014 and was elected to the Rajya Sabha thrice in 1978, 2001 and 2006. He was a Cabinet minister in UP from March 1997-August 2000, holding the portfolios of PWD, Medical Education and Tourism.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, his wife Dr Sadhna Thakur, SMC Mayor Kusum Sadret, Chief Secretary BK Agarwal, DGP SR Mardi, and other dignitaries welcomed him in Raj Bhawan.

The Chief Minister honoured Mishra with a Himachali cap and shawl. Earlier, Education Minister Suresh Bhardwaj, Deputy Mayor Amit Kashyap, SP Umapati Jamwal and others welcomed him at the Annadale helipad.
