Solan, January 31

A foam sheet manufacturing unit was gutted in Manpura village of Baddi this afternoon causing heavy loss though no loss of life was reported. Though the exact cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained, preliminary investigations reveal that the mishap occurred due to leakage of LPG from a gas cylinder which led to a blast and the fire spread in the unit within no time. The workers ran to save themselves.

The unit employees were rescued from the blazing unit with the help of the fire staff and the policemen. The employees of several nearby industrial units also pitched in to douse the flames which could have spread to other units, given its high intensity.

The presence of plastic material and commercial LPG cylinders in the unit posed hardships in fire fighting operations due to their highly inflammable nature. LPG cylinders are used in the manufacturing process in the unit and the fire staff had to remove these commercial cylinders from there to prevent the fire from spreading further. — TNS
