A house and a cow shelter were reportedly gutted in Galore Khas village, 20 km from here, yesterday. Loss to the property was estimated to be over Rs 8 lakh.

Reports said that the house of Sunehro Devi, wife of late Jai Kishan, and a cow shed adjoining the house caught fire at 5:30 p.m. On seeing the fire, her grandson raised an alarm. Electric short circuit is believed to be the possible cause of the fire.

Since there was no fire station nearby, a call was made to the fire station at Hamirpur but no fire fighting service could be provided. Fire officer said that a call was received but later they were informed that the fire was extinguished by the people there.

Significantly, people of Galore tehsil have been demanding a fire station for long time but the demand was yet to be addressed.

Tehsildar at Galore Vipin Soni gave an immediate relief of Rs 15,000 to the affected family. Bihari Lal, Zila Parishad member of the area, said that he would request the government to set up a fire station at Galore as this would cater to over 200 villages across 35 gram panchayats within the 10-km radius.
