Hail, rain damage mango crop

PALAMPUR: High-velocity winds accompanied by a hailstorm and rain lashed Palampur and its adjoining areas last night, resulting in disrupting normal life in many parts of the region.

High-velocity winds accompanied by a hailstorm and rain lashed Palampur and its adjoining areas last night, resulting in disrupting normal life in many parts of the region. Holta, Banuri, Tanda Rajpur, Panchrukhi, Bhawarna were the worst affected areas. Several trees were uprooted blocking local roads and highways.

Power supply was also disrupted in lower areas of Palampur and the same was restored late in the night.

Upper reaches of Dhauladhar experienced unusual snowfall in the month of May. Being a week end, there was a heavy rush of tourists who were forced to bring out woollens.

The hail and rain caused extensive damage to mango crop in the region.

Relief from sweltering heat in Kangra areas

Kangra: Kangra was lashed by rain this evening resulting in drop in the temperature, giving relief to the people from the sweltering heat.

The day was sunny and humid but the sky was overcast in the evening with dark clouds followed by rains.

The valley witnessed rains with high velocity winds last night too.

The weather department has predicted rains with thunder showers at isolated places up to May 25.

Tourists in large numbers have thronged the valley. — OC
