Guv meets officials to review Smart City projects

Governor Bandaru Dattatreya today convened a meeting with officials of the Smart City project at the Raj Bhawan. He enquired about the ongoing works in Shimla and Dharamsala.

Secretary, Urban Development, C Palarasu, Municipal Commissioner Pankaj Rai and Managing Director-cum-Chief Executive Officer of the Dharamsala Smart City project Pradeep Thakur apprised the Governor of the projects and facilities to be developed in the city.

The officials were directed to work extensively for Shimla water management and sewerage system.

The Governor said to facilitate the population of about 2 lakh people, there was a need to chalk out a comprehensive plan. He also asked to develop a plan for the construction of tunnels in Shimla to decongest roads, apart from laying emphasis on smart classrooms and development of tourist spots.

Rai told the Governor that 23 stakeholder departments were involved in the projects envisaged under the Shimla Smart City Mission. He said 28 most-doable projects worth Rs 339.35 crore had been prioritised. Rai also briefed about installation of e-toilets at important public places, construction of a covered footpath along Sanjauli-IGMC, eco-tourism development and development of pedestrian paths, including road widening, channelisation of nullahs, procurement of garbage compactors and modern ambulances.
