Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur while presiding over the closing ceremony of the four-day international Lavi fair at Rampur Bushahr in Shimla district on Wednesday said fairs and festivals were an integral part of the state as these highlighted the rich traditions, customs and culture.
He said Lavi fair was also known for its trade with Tibet, China and other countries. The state government was committed to promoting the fairs, culture and customs of the state in a big way, he said.
The Chief Minister announced the opening of the office of the Tehsil Welfare Officer at Nankhari and the matter would be taken up with the Centre for declaring Tikkar-Khamadi-Khanog-Nirath road as the national highway. He announced that science classes would be started at GSSS, Khunni, from the next academic session. He also announced to provide funds for various link roads in the Rampur Bushahr Assembly constituency.
Jai Ram Thakur distributed prizes to the best handicraft and handloom stalls put up by various self-help groups at the fair.
He laid foundation stones of drinking water supply schemes at Khanevali, Bhadrash, Addu Jwalda, Talara, Majhgaon, Rangori, Odidhar, Deuu, Kunni and Shahdhar.
He inaugurated the science block of Government Senior Secondary School, Nogli, and Ayurvedic Hospital at Rampur Bushahr and laid the foundation stone of road from Chakti to Dadara.
Earlier, the Chief Minister visited the Jhakhari power house and talked to the senior officers of the hydropower project.
On the demand of the local people, he assured to open a primary health centre at Jhakhri and directed the departments to solve the drinking water problem and undertake maintenance of roads in the area.
He announced to provide Rs 3 lakh each to Shantinagar, Garkahan and Satluj Mahila Mandals for the construction of Mahila Mandal Bhawans. A cheque of Rs 51,000 was presented to the Chief Minister by resident Sushma Mukhrjee towards the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
