Full court reference in honour of Justice Karol

The Himachal High Court on Monday bid farewell to Justice Sanjay Karol, who has been elevated as the Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court. In his address, Chief Justice Surya Kant said, “Justice Sanjay Karol is an ideal judge and is always eager to do justice to the oppressed and deserving and has never allowed technicalities to overshadow the free flow of Justice.”

He said the highest degree of impartiality, absolute integrity and independence had been the hallmarks of Justice Karol’s character as a man and a judge. He appreciated the cordial behaviour, humility and patience of Justice Karol and said the Bench would be deprived of his valuable contribution and affectionate association. Justice Sanjay Karol said,” The strength of the Bench lies in the strong Bar.” He said his main motto had been to wipe out the tears of the litigants, especially the poor ones, for which he also adopted the methods of reconciliation and meditation and also proposed the opening of legal clinics at the panchayat level, so that poor people having no knowledge of legal procedure could be benefited.

In his emotional speech, he thanked his family, the Bench, the Bar and the Registry for their contribution in his achievement.

Apart from them, Ashok Sharma, Advocate General; Ramakant Sharma, chairman, Bar Council of HP; Rajeev Jiwan, president, HP High Court Bar Association, and Rajesh Kumar Sharma, Assistant Solicitor General of India, also spoke on the occasion.

They described Justice Karol a hard task master and appreciated various landmark judgments rendered by him on the issues of public importance, especially his contribution in solving the issue of Shimla water crisis. He was given a formal farewell by way of a Full Court Address in the Court of the Chief Justice.

Justice Dharam Chand Chaudhary, Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, Justice Sureshwar Thakur, Justice Vivek Singh Thakur, Justice Ajay Mohan Goel, Justice Sandeep Sharma, Justice Chander Bhusan Barowalia, retired judges and members of the bar and judicial officers were present.
