Forest rights panel’s nod to transfer land to 20 institutions

A district-level forest rights committee has accorded approval for transferring land in the name of 20 educational institutions in different parts of Chamba district which included government primary, middle, high and senior secondary schools.

Deputy Commissioner of Chamba Harikesh Meena said here today that the district-level forest rights committee had been constituted under the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006.

The committee had also settled the forest rights of Kalmala and Janghi under the Forest Rights Act, the DC said.

He said the committee had given approval for providing land to 66-KV transmission lines besides Sanjay Shastri Sky Gates Real Estate. He said nine cases related to community rights would be considered for clearance after completing the requisite formalities by the respective sub-divisional level forest rights committees. In the district, overall 1,104 forest rights committees were to be formed, out of which 1,080 committees had so far been set up, the Deputy Commissioner said, adding the rest 24 forest rights committees would be formed soon. — OC
