Flash flood hits Manali village

MANALI: Torrential rain last night resulted in flash flood at Gazan village, about 12 km from here, and damaged roads, houses and vehicles.

Torrential rain last night resulted in flash flood at Gazan village, about 12 km from here, and damaged roads, houses and vehicles.

The floods along with huge boulders and debris damaged one house while another one was partially damaged. It also damaged three tractors, a car and a motorcycle.

The public path of the village connecting them with national highway has also been damaged while a huge chunk of the road was also washed away.

The flood wreaked havoc in the lower end of the village which is thinly populated. There was no casualty as the sound of boulders colliding with each other alerted the villagers.Panchayat pradhan Balbir Rana said the flood occurred at 2:30 when all villagers were in deep sleep. He said the villagers woke up after hearing the sound of the flood. He added that flood has damaged a house and a team of officials from the Revenue Department visited the area today.

Kishor Thakur, naib tehsildar, Manali, said estimates of damages were being assessed and Rs 10,000 had been given as immediate relief to Hotam Ram, whose house was damaged.
