New technologies empower locals and help supplement their income. This was stated by experts and NGOs at the Himachal Science Congress here today.

They said scientists needed to work to take these technologies to remote areas.

The NGOs displayed their products at an exhibition inaugurated by NITI Aayog member Dr VK Saraswat, who visited all stalls and appreciated the efforts of the NGOs. “India has a huge potential and new technologies can end poverty and improve the lifestyle of people,” he added

Solar water and space heating panels, herbal products and mushrooms of the Himalayan Research Group caught the fancy of visitors.

An NGO from Dehradun displayed food, fruit and honey processing technologies, which attracted women groups.

The exhibition also had stalls where information on cattle breed improvement and water resource development was given. Chief Justice of the HP High Court Justice Sanjay Karol presided over the concluding ceremony and gave away prizes to winners.

As many as 400 participants from various institutions presented their research papers on how to improve the lifestyle of the people with the help of new technologies.
