Nurpur, August 17

The police have registered cases against 24 activists of the BJYM of Nurpur last evening for allegedly burning an effigy of Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on the entrance of combined office building at the Akrosh Rally against the state government.

As per police information, local former MLA and member of state BJP working committee Rakesh Pathania was also booked by the police. A case under Sections 143 and 336 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against them.

The situation at the rally took an ugly turn when a police officer took away the effigy of the Chief Minister kept in a vehicle by BJYM activists.

This infuriated Pathania who had heated exchange with the police officer who had taken away the CM’s effigy.

Later, BJYM activists led by Pathania got another effigy of the CM and burnt it at the entrance of the Combine Office building despite objection by the SDM.

The police remained mute spectators as the effigy of the CM was burnt on the premises of the government building.

Pathania reportedly questioned the administration that if burning of an effigy of the Prime Minister by Congress workers could be allowed on the same place a few months ago then why the effigy of the CM could not be burnt there.
