Solan, February 8

The State Pollution Control Board will soon open an environment training centre in Baddi to enhance the participation of stakeholders in the industrial hub of Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh (BBN).

The centre was notified by the board recently. It will organise short-term training, awareness and capacity-building programmes.

Member Secretary, State Pollution Control Board, Dr RK Pruthi, said this centre would act as a facilitator to train people in the requisite environmental aspects. Those dealing with waste, including municipal solid, plastic and industrial, would be given training. Priorities would be fixed to deal with each type of waste and vigil would be maintained to minimise pollution. Steps would be taken to create awareness on the plantation of those saplings that absorb carbon.

“Investors will be informed about environmental procedures that are supposed to be adopted by them. It is often seen that investors lack knowledge about the laid norms,” said an official.

With places such as Baddi figuring on the list of non-attainment cities released by the CPCB, where air quality was not in sync with the National Ambient Air Quality parameters, the need for strict adherence of environmental norms was being felt. The Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh area, which houses 79 per cent of the state’s industries, is facing air, water and soil pollution.
