Solan, June 20

In a bid to ensure compliance of the High Court orders, the district administration has issued directions to take effective steps for the proper disposal of non-biodegradable material as well as the biodegradable garbage, including thermocol cutlery, during the three-day Shoolini fair which begins on June 22 in Solan.

Solan DC Vinod Kumar has issued orders directing all traders, NGOs and organisers of community food stalls to ensure the disposal of all material used in the fair as per the provisions laid down in the Non-Biodegradable Garbage (Control ) Act,1995, and other environmental laws.

“It is the duty of the organisers of all food stalls to ensure the collection of non-biodegradable and well as biodegradable garbage at specific designated collection and disposal points. This will ensure that the environment was not contaminated and there was no health hazard from such garbage.”

Large-scale litter is seen accumulated on Mall Road where food stalls are set up after the commencement of this annual fair every year. The High Court directions will provide the much-needed relief to residents and ensure scientific disposal of the garbage. — TNS
