The doctor fraternity here is irked with the police for not taking timely action when two doctors were manhandled at the Zonal Hospital recently. They have demanded that a case be registered against the accused, who is still at large.

The doctors of the Zonal Hospital convened a meeting to express their resentment.

Doctor Vikas, general secretary of the doctors association in Mandi said the police should take action and arrest the accused. It was stated that the accused was allegedly one of the policemen and the authority was trying to shield him.

“We have provided theCCTV footage to the police to identify the accused, but so far, there has been no arrest. The accused manhandled the doctor on a petty issue, when the doctor was sitting inside his car. When another doctor came to the rescue of his collegue, the accused also manhandled him” he remarked.

“We have decided that we will give 24 hours ultimatum to the police to arrest the accused. If the police fails to act in this direction then all doctors will sit on a two-hour pen down strike on the hospital premises” he added.

When contacted Gurdev Chand Sharma, Superintendent of Police, Mandi, said the police was investigating the case and action would be taken accordingly. He said so far, no arrest was made in the case.
