Dhauladhar ranges receive season’s heaviest snow

PALAMPUR: Upper reaches of Dhauladhar ranges and Chhota and Bara Bhangal valley on Thursday experienced the heaviest snowfall of the season, while the lower reaches were lashed by heavy rain.

Upper reaches of Dhauladhar ranges and Chhota and Bara Bhangal valley on Thursday experienced the heaviest snowfall of the season, while the lower reaches were lashed by heavy rain.

Some parts of Palampur were also hit by hailstorm. The entire Kangra valley is in the grip of a severe cold wave. Bundla, Kandi and other upper areas of Palampur recorded subzero temperature. Snow and rain has disrupted the normal life. The power supply and telecommunication networks have been disrupted while vehicular traffic to snowbound areas has been suspended. HRTC and private operators have discontinued buses to Kothi Kohar and Luhardi following heavy snow at Jhataniri and Multhan. Many parts of Palampur, Maranda, Sulaha, Thural, Baijnath and Jaisinghpur have been without power since morning following heavy damages to supply lines. Palampur HPSEB officials said they had been working round the clock to restore the power supply lines. Till evening, 90 per cent percent areas had been covered, they added.
