The Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee today held a demonstration against the detention of Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi while she was on her way to meet violence-affected people in Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh yesterday.

Hundreds of Congress activists and workers gathered near the party office in Shimla and burnt an effigy of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Addressing the party activists, Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee president Kuldeep Singh Rathore said it was the murder of democracy. He said such acts were dangerous for the country, which freedom fighters and great leaders had preserved till now. CLP leader Mukesh Agnihotri, MLA Vikram Aditya Singh and others were present during the protest.— TNS
