Confusion over date

Is it 113th or 114th birth anniversary of state’s first Chief Minister Dr Yashwant Singh Parmar? The two different banners, one put up by the state government and the other by the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) for celebrating the birth anniversary have triggered a controversy over the two different anniversaries on social media and even among party workers.

The HPCC banner mentioned the anniversary as the 114th while the state government banner mentioned it as the 113th. Who has committed this blunder — the HPCC or the state government? asked a Congress leader. He says it is the HPCC banner which is wrong as this year is his 113th birth anniversary and the party must fix responsibility for such a glaring blunder. The HPCC for the first time has chosen to celebrate the anniversary function at Dr Parmar’s native place at Bagthan in Pachhad constituency while the government as always will celebrate it here in the state capital.

Salary pangs

The transfers made by the state government last month in which junior officers were posted against the post of seniors are having its repercussions. Now an IG who was posted against the post of DIG in Kangra has not been paid his salary. Sources here said that the IG could not be paid his salary on the first of this month as his salary could not be drawn from the post of DIG. Now the clerks in the department are looking for some other post from where the salary of the IG could be drawn. All this to accommodate a politically favourite officer at the post he desired despite opposition by senior-most BJP leaders of party from Kangra!

Congress still in slumber

Despite major drubbing received in the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress till seems to be in a state of slumber. No serious introspection that led to the poll debacle has been made so far. It is probably for this reason that Congress Legislature Party (CLP) decided to assume the role that the party should have performed to send a signal that Congress is not finished. The CLP at its meeting decided to launch Save Himachal Campaign to hit out at the BJP regime. “If the CLP does not start getting active, the party is sure to be wiped out in the 2022 elections. Under the present circumstances, no senior MLA or former minister is willing to work with inexperienced and junior party leaders who even question senior MLAs,” remarked a senior leader adding that the future of the MLAs is at stake.

Four-laning project chaos

The inept handling of the four- laning project of the Parwanoo- Solan highway by the private company has left the public wondering whether they have been given a free hand to create chaos. First they dug up several feet deep pits at Kumarhatti. Then foreseeing trouble in the rains they were hurriedly filled these with soil but since that created a sinking zone they stacked broken bricks to provide some stability only to worsen the situation after fresh showers. The shoddy experiment transformed the place to a dark red zone, prompting a passerby to comment that the red tomatoes of Solan were for the first time receiving competition from the red colour splash on the highway.
