CM greets people on Gurpurb, Lohri

SHIMLA: Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Sunday said religion was the very essence of society and respect, adding that reverence and dedication towards religion were essential.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Sunday said religion was the very essence of society and respect, adding that reverence and dedication towards religion were essential.

He was speaking at the function organised by Gurdwara Singh Sabha on the 352th Prakash Utsav of Guru Gobind Singh here on Sunday. He paid obeisance at Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara on Cart Road.

He said Guru Gobind Singh had contributed a lot to his religion, society and the country. His teachings are relevant even today.

“We should read about the lives and principles of these great men and saints who lived by example and established high idles in society,” he said.

The Prakash Utsav would be celebrated with great fervour in the state and the government would extend all possible, the Chief Minister said. He also greeted the people of the state on Lohri and Makar Sankranti.

Pradhan Guru Singh Sabha Jaswinder Singh honoured the Chief Minister with a Saropa and a sword. He also honoured other dignitaries, including Education Minister Suresh Bhardwaj and Chopal MLA Balbir Verma.
