Chamera lake to emerge as key tourist destination

The reservoir of Chamera hydroelectric project (stage-I) popularly known as Chamera lake can be a must-see destination for all the tourists who visit the famous Dalhousie-Chamba tourist circuit.

For this, eco-friendly efforts with people’s participation would be made to develop the Chamera lake from the water sports and adventure tourism point of view so that the lake could emerge as a model tourist spot.

Addressing a meeting of district-level water sports committee here, Deputy Commissioner Harikesh Meena said that an action plan would be prepared to set up a houseboat, besides promoting other water sports activities and adventure tourism.

Rafting and boating would be introduced in the Ravi though the non-government organisations to attract those tourists who are fond of adventure and water sports.

Meena said that the local youths would be imparted training in courses related to water sports and adventure tourism so that they could earn their livelihood.

Mountain biking would also be introduced around Dalhousie-Khajjiar hills, Meena said.
