Una, February 20

A center for tuberculosis patients put on multi-drug therapy started functioning at the district hospital here today. The center has two beds and dedicated staff. Chief Medical Officer Dr Parkash Daroch said that patients suffering from drug-resistant strains of tuberculosis were recommended multi-drug therapy. The center has been equipped with two beds and dedicated staff.

District TB Programme Officer Dr Parveen Chaudhary said patients were usually reluctant to travel to Tanda medical college and the new facility would enable them to get treatment near their home.

Dr Chaudhary said a patient would be admitted for seven days, during which he would be given different drugs to check the effect of each on the body. The patient would be discharged after a suitable drug type has been identified. — OC
