Una, March 20

A district-level campaign on “Prevention of Forest Fires” was launched at Piplu village in Kutlehar on Tuesday. Rural Development Minister Virender Kanwar called for the preservation of forests to save the eco system, which was experiencing negative trends due to over-exploitation of forest reserves.

Kanwar called upon farmers to refrain from setting dry grass in their fields on fire during summer as it was the main cause of forest fires. He urged the rural youth to get associated with the Yuva Raksha Vahini supported by the Forest Department. DFO Yashu Deep Singh said those associated with the Yuva Raksha Vahini would be informed about fire incidents through an SMS. — OC
