Una, May 6

A-seven-year-old boy was burnt alive when a fire broke out at five thatched huts belonging to migrant workers at Pandoga village in Haroli subdivision this afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Badal Kumar. All other children ran to safety. Their parents were away to work when the incident took place.

Although the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, it is being suspected that left-over amber from the hearth led to the incident. The victim’s body was handed over to his family after an autopsy at the Una district hospital.

The district administration has given an immediate relief of Rs 7,000 to next of kin of the deceased. Haroli SDM Gaurav Chaudhary said Rs 2,000 besides some dry ration was also given to those whose huts were destroyed in the fire.
