Body of 1968 Air Force plane crash victim found in Himachal after 50 years

CHANDIGARH: The body of a 1968 Indian Air Force plane crash victim was found during a cleanliness drive organised by Indian Mountaineering Foundation, 50 years after the mishap occurred in Lahaul and Spiti Valley of Himachal Pradesh.

The body of a 1968 Indian Air Force plane crash victim was found during a cleanliness drive organised by Indian Mountaineering Foundation, 50 years after the mishap occurred in Lahaul and Spiti Valley of Himachal Pradesh.

The corpse was spotted by a member of the mountaineering team at the Chandrabhaga-13 peak along with a few parts of the aircraft at the Dhaka glacier base camp.

On February 7, 1968, an Antonov An-12 twin engine turboprop transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force disappeared while flying to Leh from Chandigarh. 

It has been said that while on approach to Leh, the pilot decided to turn back due to inclement weather after which the aircraft went missing with the last radio contact over Rohtang Pass. It was declared missing after the failure to find the wreck. With ANI inputs
