Bhuntar bridge to be closed from Nov 10

The bailey bridge in Bhuntar that connects the Kullu-Manali national highway and the Bhuntar-Manikaran road will remain closed to traffic from November 10 to December 10 on account of construction work. This was stated by Kullu Deputy Commissioner Yunus.

The concrete bridge was washed away in the 1995 floods and the bailey bridge was constructed in its place, which was also damaged in 2008. Following this, another bridge was constructed at the same place.

The narrow bridge permitted the passage of only one heavy vehicle at a time and thus the area witnessed frequent traffic jams. Residents had been demanding a wider bridge for long. The bridge connects Parla Bhuntar and the entire Parbati valley with Bhuntar town. Thousands of vehicles going towards Manali and Manikaran cross the bridge every day.
