Avalanche blocks Chenab; tremors in Chamba, Lahaul

MANDI: An avalanche near Trilokinath temple in Lahaul Spiti last night hampered the flow of the Chenab. According to locals, no loss of life or property was reported. Mahesh, a local at Trilokinath, said due to the avalanche, the flow of the river had been blocked for a few hours. However, on Monday, water was released.

An avalanche near Trilokinath temple in Lahaul Spiti last night hampered the flow of the Chenab. According to locals, no loss of life or property was reported.

Mahesh, a local at Trilokinath, said due to the avalanche, the flow of the river had been blocked for a few hours. However, on Monday, water was released.

He said had the Chenab been blocked for more days, it would have damaged the habitation downstream.

The district also witnessed an earthquake today. Naib tehsildar, Udaipur, said the tremors hit Udaipur four times. There is no information regarding the loss to life or property.

Amar Negi, SDM, Keylong, urged the people to stay indoors for a few days because Lahaul Spiti was prone to avalanches.

DC, Kullu, Yunus Khan and DC, Mandi, Rugved Thakur also urged the people to avoid venturing into high-altitude areas.

An earthquake of mild intensity rock parts of Chamba district this evening. The epicentre of the quake measuring 3.5 was in Chamba district, local Met office said.

The earthquake occurred around 4 pm and the depth was 10 km. No loss of life and property has been reported.
