Assistant drug controller, Nishant Sareen, allegedly involved in a corruption case, has been arrested. He had withdrawn his anticipatory bail application from the High Court. Thereafter, the Vigilance had detained him for questioning.

Sources in the Vigilance confirmed that Nishant had earlier been detained for questioning. Today his bail application was listed before the court. During the course of hearing, the counsel for the petitioner sought permission to withdraw the bail petition at this stage, with liberty to file afresh an appropriate stage.

While granting the permission, Justice Sandeep Sharma observed that “In view of the submission made on behalf of the petitioner, the present petition is dismissed as withdrawn, with liberty to file afresh at an appropriate stage, if so required and desired.”

During the course of hearing, Nishant Sareen and officials of State Vigilance and Anti- Corruption Bureau was present before the court.

The State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau have registered an FIR against Sareen under the provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act on August 21.

During the course of hearing the prosecution agency contended before the court that interrogation of Sareen was necessary in order to facilitate further investigation of the case.
