Shanta Kumar, MP and senior BJP leader, today said the Congress high command should ask Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh to step down immediately since he was an accused and on bail granted to him by the CBI court.

Addressing a mammoth gathering during BJP Parivartan Yatra here today, Shanta Kumar said keeping in view of a criminal case registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate, he had no moral right to continue in the office.

Shanta said the Chief Minister had time and again claimed that cases registered against him were politically motivated, if it was true he should quit the office and allow the investigating agencies to conduct a fair, impartial and independent investigation.

Shanta said in the present situation there was no justification for the Chief Minister to continue in the office as after the registration of criminal cases all developmental activities in the state had come to a standstill, corruption was rampant, there was a total collapse of law and order as official machinery was not functioning properly.
