Amritsar pilgrim slips off train, dies

NURPUR: Gourav Chopra (37), a pilgrim from Namak Mandi, Amritsar, killed on the spot when he slipped from the stairs of the Pathankot-Jogindernagar train at Bharmar in Jawali on Sunday morning.

Gourav Chopra (37), a pilgrim from Namak Mandi, Amritsar, killed on the spot when he slipped from the stairs of the Pathankot-Jogindernagar train at Bharmar in Jawali on Sunday morning. He was reportedly fell on the railway track and overrun by the train.

He had boarded the train from Pathankot, along with his wife Saloni and 8-year-old son, to visit and pay obeisance to the Chamunda Mata temple in Kangra. He alighted from the train at the Bharmar railway station for fetching water. His foot slipped from the stairs as he tried to board the moving train. The body was sent to the Nurpur Civil Hospital’s mortuary for post-mortem examination.

This is the second fatal accident on the same railway track within three days. Earlier on Friday, Simran Kumari of Nagrota Surian had fallen while crossing the Dahmoyia Nullah Bridge located between Nandpur and Guler railway stations and died on the spot. — OC
