Akal Academy Schools’ chain has found a place in the Limca Book of Records for organising India’s biggest rally against drug abuse.
As many as 15,000 students of 113 Akal Academy Schools from five states — Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh — rallied against drug abuse on December 18, 2017.
They succeeded in reaching out and motivating 4 lakh people. A total of 1,400 km was covered.
Dr Neelam Kaur, principal, Akal Academy Schools, said the efforts of students were appreciable. “We hope others too will come forward and join the cause for making India drug-free,” she said.
Akal Academy Schools are run by the Kalgidhar Trust, which also runs two de-addiction centres. These centres organise awareness campaigns with the help of these students throughout the year.
