41 gastro cases reported in Kangra

Fortyone cases of gastroenteritis were reported from Old Kangra and villages in its vicinity during the last two days. Following the outbreak of the disease, medical teams were rushed to the affected villages, medical authorities said here today.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Kangra, Dr BM Gupta said 24 persons of Old Kangra and Rajal and other villages complained of being affected by the disease yesterday. Of them, one was admitted to the DRPGMC at Tanda and nine to the local Civil Hospital.

He said 17 persons reported to the Civil Hospital OPD today. Of them, four were admitted to the hospital taking the number of admissions to 14 during the last two days.

The CMO said medical teams, consisting of District Health Officer RS Rana and BMO S Sood, along with para-medical staff, were rushed to the affected villages. He said chlorine tablets were distributed in the villages and water samples collected and sent to the laboratory for testing.

The Irrigation and Public Health Department authorities said water sources in the area were chlorinated.
