3 killed as car falls into gorge in Mandi

MANDI: Three persons were killed and three others injured when the vehicle they were travelling in fell into a deep gorge near Pandoh on the Chandigarh-Manali highway on Saturday night.

Three persons were killed and three others injured when the vehicle they were travelling in fell into a deep gorge near Pandoh on the Chandigarh-Manali highway on Saturday night. The victims were on the way to Manali from Mandi side.

The incident took place near Pandoh Dam. The deceased were identified as Rohit Kumar and Sonipal, both residents of Lahda village in Chamba district while Ajay Kumar belonged to Bhagra village of the district.

Three other persons, namely Arun Kumar and Sanjay Kumar from Biansla village in Chamba district and Manu Kumar from of Lahda village, were wounded in the accident and admitted to a zonal hospital in Mandi.

Superintendent of Police, Mandi, Gurdev Chand Sharma said the injured victims were stable.

He said preliminary inquiry inidicated that the vehicle met with an accident due to the negligence of the driver.

A case has been registered and investigations are underway.

He said the bodies had been handed over to the family members for the last rites.
